Social responsibility meets NFTs: a Hungarian start-up’s digital collection is ready to revolutionize fashion

Hungarian start-up, Dress-coding is launching their new digital fashion collection this Wednesday on the NFT platform, foundation.app. The virtual dresses don’t only serve a good cause, but they also revolutionize the way we think about fashion in the digital age.

The future is digital in fashion, too, and Dress-coding knows that

Have you ever wanted to try on a piece from the latest fashion shows without having to leave your room? Or have you ever imagined how hard it must be for disabled people to go clothes shopping in crowded malls and try on clothes that were made with only able-bodied people in mind?

The team of Dress-coding wants to answer these questions (and a bunch more) with the help of digital innovation. The team, that is entirely made up of Hungarian artists and volunteers, not only creates clothes for disabled and marginalized people, but they also want to make a wider audience think about sustainability and innovation within the realm of fashion.

And while the idea of virtual clothes can be strange at first glance, the collection that builds on design, technology and film wants to educate society and serve the needs of disabled people at the same time. As part of the project, they are creating a three-part documentary that deals with topics such as inclusive design, sustainable fashion and living with disabilities.

With the help on NFTs, they can also make sure that the virtual clothes they create as part of the collection, remain unique. The new NFT fashion collection from Dress-coding launches on the 3 November on the foundation.app platform. Inclusivity also played a big part in the collection’s creation. One of the main artists is Lia Sőrés, a Hungarian painter living with Down Syndrome.

The NFTs are worn by photographer and digital artist, Flóra Borsi, fashion reporter, Bence Csalár and disabled activist, Veronika Kalász.

The money raised during the auction will support Ms. Sőrés as well as further projects of Dress-coding.

Virtual fashion is about to become even bigger

The virtual fashion collection is a great example of how NFTs and digitalization can help everyday problems such as clothing issues for disables people who normally struggle with trying on clothes and going to stores. With digitally available clothes, they can do all that from the comfort of their own home and also have the clothes tailored personally for them.

As our lives are increasingly lived online, digital fashion is expected to take on a bigger role. From dressing up our avatars in video games to buying digital clothes and accessories for the ever-growing number of online calls and meetings we take part in, virtual fashion will move from being present only in high-end fashion houses to being a part of our everyday lives. According to some, digital fashion might even help reduce the environmental impact of fast fashion.
